This has been a great week for getting projects done. We have several projects in the works right now. We are working on our TEAM Speeches, art projects, our Life Round Here projects. Here is a busy place! This morning we watched some finished Life Round Here projects and then spent some time reading and working on our speeches. This afternoon, we had a visit from a few of the teachers at LaVenture. They talked with us about a program that is at both middle schools and the highschool called AVID. AVID means Advancement Via Individual Determination. It is a program for students planning to go to college. They target kids who may not have much family experience with going to college. But all students who are interested may apply. The program helps kids with study skills, and gives opportunities for them to learn about colleges and careers. It is an excellent program. Students in the program have to work very hard, but they are rewarded for their hard work with opportunities to go on field trips and advance toward their goals. Interested students took home an application today. The applications are due next Wednesday, but if they get them in earlier, it will be a reflection of their determination. The last period of the day, we worked more on our projects while watching Planet Earth. Lots of stuff is due tomorrow.
